  1. Bistell is selling a 915 equipped as an E-LSA. Sure would love a 915 in the F2!
  2. I didn't realize they were already shipping F2's... That makes it very real... Question on the single lever throttle and brake... There must be a dead spot where you can be at idle without the breaks being applied? I'm thinking here comes a casual guy over the numbers, he is doing a throttle off float landing (where most of us keep some throttle in), touches down but because he is at idle the breaks are already applied and the fresh acrid smell of rubber fills the cabin... For that matter, are we still using split wheels and Matco brakes or have we moved up to solid wheels and Berringer brakes? So many questions! ...."ring ring, hi Tom, tell me all about the F2".
  3. Rotax engines are fine with an ethanol blend. I was using premium mo-gas, that's up to a 90/10 blend (from the gas station a mile away by Target). I read a great article recently about when to use 100LL v MoGas on Rotax engines. This forum has debated that topic 1000 times over the years. The advice had to do with personal flying habits, namely- "If you fly once a month or your plane sits for extended periods of time - use 100LL. If you fly regularly, use MoGas. The decision was based more on the lines of how infrequently you flew and how long the gas sat in your tanks. MoGas gets more skunky with time v. 100LL. The maintenance cost differential becomes more of a factor with higher usage rates. I'm paraphrasing but that was the gist of the article - darned if I can remember where I read it....
  4. Jet Card Service on DPJ, Sentient, NetJets all very similar. You sign a contract that locks in the per hour rate of your preferred class. It also locks in the rates for other classes at the same time. You make a deposit to your piggy bank (usually entry level is 25 hours although sometimes they do promo's at 15 or 20). Once the deposit is made, the lock period is roughly 18 to 24 months and you start using the account. You can order any size jet you want, you pay by the drink. I have learned that I get upgraded at least 50% of the time for their convenience and thus I pay light jet prices often times for mid or super mid category jets. It is very expensive (relatively speaking) but for those with the means, it sure simplifies life. I need a small plane for personal enjoyment and burger chasing... I miss that. But getting from Point A to Point B - I have really enjoyed private jet travel. Airports used are up to the person booking. I tell them what airports I'm going to, where I want to leave from and what size plane I want. They have length minimums based on size of aircraft. 5000 in good weather pretty much starting point for light jet category. Size of aircraft requested most of the time is dependent on number of people and distance. Cross country I use Mid or Super Mid with either one or no fuel stops. Wife and I kinda enjoy getting out during a refuel stop to stretch our legs and go to the restroom. Delta recently bought Wheels Up, now as a Delta Private Jets member, I also get access to King Air 350's for short hop turbo prop efficient flights which lowers the runway length requirements and opens up even more airports. Some pics of a recent flight.
  5. Posted here first to see if an LSA owner locally wanted to grab it. Just starting to thin out the hangar so haven't gotten serious yet. I half heartedly wonder about throwing it in the bed of my F250 and giving it a piggy back ride to TX on an upcoming trip! For those at KFUL - the real lottery is going to be for who gets my pimped out extended T hangar! (notice the epoxy flooring). Also going to give away the RV12 orphaned tail . It was a lot of fun to build and some local EAA chapter might enjoy the "donation".
  6. Hi Wayne! Long time... Glad to hear you are still doing well in the "old hood" at KHHR! I think you'd get use out of a small fuel trailer for your bird??? (Or is mo gas now available at KHHR?). Small enough you could use a car to haul, very lightweight. I'd give you a "friends and family top secret discount" . SSSShhh, don't tell anyone. I used to be a Texan too. Lived there long ago, back in the 1980's (the Army years). My son and his family moved from CA to Austin area about 3 years ago. Job move, company left CA for TX. He is doing great and loving it. We will be in the DFW area. CA state taxes top rate 16.8%, Texas 0%. Now with a .4% wealth tax coming on high net worth folks I need to get the hell outta dodge! I gave Gavin Newsome $1.8M in taxes last year, that buys many toys in TX.
  7. I reached out to Tom on the F2. I'm willing to be an early slot if Flight Design wants a 3 time CT owner to be a guinea pig... Have not heard back. You out there TP? CTSW, CTLS, CTLSi seems like an F2 could be a natural progression. Slings are imported near me in Torrance CA. I have heard a lot about them but no experience directly.
  8. Hi Bill - Never bought it. Rotax's introduction of the 915 caused me to pause right when I was ready to pull the trigger on the 914 powered P2008. I started building an RV12 tail (pic attached) but ultimately lost interest in that. Bristell is the first to offer an LSA. (E-LSA) with the 915iS. Fully loaded it prices out at $280 - so not for the faint at heart!. Lately, wife, daughter and I have been getting around the country in a private jet (but sitting in the back as members of Delta Private Jets). It's very addictive. I do plan to buy and fly again once I get to TX. Once I knew we were going to move I pushed the plane back a bit because I didn't want one more thing that needed to be moved!
  9. FUEL TRAILER IS SOLD Greetings Everyone! I'm moving to Westlake, TX. Thinning out things from the hangar so I can eventually make the move. I built this gasoline fuel trailer a few years back. I over engineered the heck out of it, spent almost $2,000 to build it. Dragging this for 20 hours on the freeway to get it to TX doesn't make a lot of sense! If you happen to be at KFUL, and have a light sport, this baby has a Fullerton City Fire Permit and you are allowed to store it in your hangar (empty) and use it to refuel on airport grounds. The build thread is here on CT Flier somewhere, Its a Harbor Freight utility trailer, GPI FM-100 deluxe gas pump, JME 50 gallon tank and deluxe Cox grounding reel. The battery compartment houses an Optima deep cycle marine battery, with circuit breaker protection and an optima charger. Very nice trailer if I do say so myself! First $750 with a truck to haul it wins! You can email me at acoffey1964@gmail.com - www.CoffeyAviation.com
  10. Mark - while I have you on the horn... Talk to me about the Astore v p2008. Which is your favorite (and why)?
  11. So perhaps the right answer is to add 2 more planes to my stable? An Astore with 912iS and a P2008 with the 914 :-)
  12. That would be sweet! Best of both worlds, fuel injected and turbo!
  13. Happy New Year Everyone! Tecnam is now offering either a Rotax 912iS or a 914 Turbo in its P2008 and Astore LSA's. It got me thinking - The 912iS is Fuel Injected, the 914 is turbocharged but is back to dual carbs. Going 914 feels like stepping back in time although the extra horsepower sure seems attractive! Toying with the idea of adding a second aircraft to my stable. I have always been drawn to the fit and finish of Tecnam. Having said that I chose FD 3 times in a row for some particular reason!
  14. It will be interesting to see if this leads to a mandatory service bulletin of some type. Playing the "shifting blame game", if NGK says "don't use in airplanes" and engine manufacturer's ignore it, they become "willfully negligent" should an accident be tied back to spark plugs (rare as it may be). I bet we haven't heard the last on this quite yet.
  15. I have always been a guy that moved the plane manually as many have described here. Lately, I pull the plane out of the hangar manually but started using a tow bar (Aircraft Spruce) to put it back in, and have to say - its easier to maneuver and steer into position in my hangar (which has a slight uphill grade to back into). I guess what that means is - you don't need a tow bar, but tow bars work just fine and in some cases make it easier for you depending on your parking situation, age and physical limitations.
  16. I see CT Flier as a place to learn, exchange ideas, meet people and further the pursuit of our LSA segment and in particular the CT series of aircraft. Freedom of speech at the constitutional level shouldn't be confused with freedom of speech in a targeted forum. CT Flier isn't a government and should feel free to impose reasonable standards of conduct for all to abide by. I love the idea of warning, warning, ban for 7 days, ban for 30 days, ban for life. Five strikes and you are out. Adding value, being thoughtful of others, furthering legitimate debate on topics are all fair game. The handful of people who are clearly out of bounds detract from the beneficial activity and enjoyment of all - thus limiting the potential of the forum. Thank you to those who expend effort to create this opportunity to interact with other CT pilots and owners. I can't imagine owning a CT in a vacuum without the benefit and access to others that this forum provides.
  17. Hi Andy, The plane delivered mid June, and then I promptly started traveling (work / pleasure). I had a 2 month stint that included Germany (Munich, Nuremberg, Dachau), then Sweden (Stockholm) followed by trips to Cost Rica, Hawaii and Toronto. I literally just did my first 6 hours in the plane over the last 3 days. Needed a BFR and my insurance required 5 hours dual prior to solo in the new plane. Its been fun, just starting to get things dialed in. Sad to say, but my engine was one of the last couple serial numbers effected by the Stator SB, so I'll be dropping the plane off to get the engine pulled here shortly. I also moved my home base from KHHR to KFUL. Fullerton is a small airport in North Orange County a few miles from Disneyland. Its been an airport since 1927. I have a new mammoth sized man cave to deck out so busy busy summer. So far I like the plane, but I'm not liking how much useful load Ive lost between the 2012 CTLS and the 2016 CTLSi. Down to 466 pounds! I remember the good old days when my 2006 CTSW had 600 pounds! Time to shed those extra 20 pounds!
  18. I was seeing 45.7 (+/-) on the takeoff roll. 45 was the setting for the bottom of the yellow segment. >45.1 would trigger the verbal warning "Fuel Pressure" I exchanged emails with Arian Foldan at FDUSA. I'm told this is not an uncommon occurrence, the specs and thinking for what the settings should be for fuel pressure have evolved (continue to evolve) over time. FD Recommended setting the yellow range to 46 - 46.5 This would make for a small yellow segment but in my case, would end the errors.
  19. My new CTLSi has a 912iS Sport engine with an auxiliary fuel pump that you turn on for takeoff and landing. When the aux pump switch is off, the gauge for fuel pressure reads in the green and does not deviate in any phase of flight. Green is a range between 42.1 to 45 PSI according to my Skyview setup menu. When I turn the aux pump on, the pressure increases (seems logical) however it goes into the yellow arc and an audible "Fuel Pressure" warning is enunciated by Skyview. The Yellow range is 45.0 to 46.4 PSI according to my setup menu. On a takeoff roll as you increase throttle, hearing "Fuel Pressure" in your ear can be unnerving at first (and then later, annoying). The pressure never goes into the red and after takeoff when I turn the aux pump off, back to the green it goes. Questions for those of you with 912iS engines: 1.) Do you experience this phenomenon? 2.) If you go to "Setup" on the Skyview, and enter the "EMS" page, then "Fuel Pressure", I'm wondering what your "Range 5" yellow settings are? (mine are 45 to 46.4). I'm wondering if my yellow arc range is set up correctly?
  20. Bruce is a retired airline captain (Hawaiian Airlines), he is also an A&P (to work on his plane). While he has every rating known to man kind he is not a flight school and so for insurance purposes cannot act as one. Since this flight I have done a few hours dual in a Stearman over here stateside just for fun. Although I remain a Sport Pilot (by choice) I have been fortunate to fly many great kinds of airplanes over the last 10 years. I have stick time in everything from 172's, 182's, Cirrus SR22's, Cessna Caravan's, all the way up to King Air 350's. Last week I flew a King Air 350 across the midwest (charter, but I got to sit right seat and fly for a few hours with the pilot) Lately I have been contemplating bumping up to Private Pilot and adding a taildragger rating. I really really really want to build and fly one of these:
  21. Farmer, I spend 10 days on Oahu each year for my birthday (July 4th). This years trip is July 3 to 13. We have a 3 bed 3 bath timeshare at the Hilton Hawaiian Village. I try to do something aviation related each year (have been coming for over 10 years now). Last year was this....
  22. Have not heard if they are on schedule but the serial number is 2013, July, 2nd Airplane of the month... F-13-07-02. Pretty sure I'm number 25 of 25 on the Jubilee Edition orders.
  23. Paul, Let me see how big it is before we worry about checks. If its typical "CT" size I can most likely zap it pretty quick on my industrial sized copiers in the office. They slice, they dice, they even make julianne fries!
  24. Thanks for the offer! I reached out via private message... Adam
