  1. My CTSW is getting a new engine implant, and I need to think carefully about a checklist for the first flight and the first few flights. Any advice? WF
  2. Don't see a price on the FD website. Any guesses?
  3. please give us some real world performance numbers when you can!
  4. The more you take it off and on, the easier it will become. WF
  5. ... and I am not sure what a constant speed prop would buy a CT relative to Eprop. WF
  6. Have had 4-5 flats in 1900 hours on my CTSW with the smaller tires. Now I carry a spare tire and tube under the pax seat with all the tools to change a tire. Going to 8 plys and trying hard not to use the brakes seems to have helped. WF
  7. I got some longer bolts with nuts, bolts much smaller in diameter than the holes in the matco wheel halves, and use them to pull the wheel halves together with some air in the tubes. Then put the usual bolts in one at a time. WF
  8. Went last month in my 2007 CTSW with a new e-prop, from Los Angeles to Ashville NC and back. 34.2 hours, 168 gallons, average groundspeed 113.8 knots. What fun! WF
  9. On a recent 22 hour trip I learned that if I climb at flaps 0 and 80 knots the eprop climbs me at greater than 650'/" to 8000 (at slightly above standard temps). Climb to 6,000 is 800 '/" or better. This bird now climbs like a homesick angel! I am set to get 5500 WOT at 9500', and about 5600 WOT at lower altitudes. Also, the fuel burn was 0.2 ghp less at my usual cruise settings. WF
  10. Thanks for the advice, guys! I cleaned all the grounds related to ignition, even found two from the ignition modules to the intake manifold that I had ben unaware of. The subsequent shut down was much more crisp. WF
  11. New E prop about a month ago. It needs to be torqued a few times after installation and a few runs. Mine runs 5600 WOT, initial climb 5400 with improved climb rate, cruise climb 5200-5300. I think the "constant speed" effect is not the blades flexing (they are much stiffer than the Neuform) but rather the washout in the blades near the hub. I think that during climb the center portion of the prop is stalled, and less of it is stalled in cruise. I was hoping it would run cooler in the climb with the higher rpms, but if anything it runs hotter, making more power in the climb. Cruise at several rpm choices are very similar to the Neuform, but on a recent trip to the fly-in at Page, my fuel burn was 4.2 instead of 4.6 gph with the Neuform at about the same true airspeeds. WF
  12. Last time I turned it off, the engine kept running. I switched back and forth from position 1 and 2 to off a couple of times and then it went off. Visual inspection showed no loose wires on the switch. I wonder if it could be a bad ground at the other end, or what? WF
  13. I have the SL30 with an ILS nav head, GTX 330 transponder with mode S and the Uavionix ADSB feeding an Ipad mini. I use a dynon D10A as the attitude indicator in a six pack of electric analogue gauges. WF
  14. Another great year at the Fly-in. Thanks, Todd! Looking forward to some pix. WF
  15. I was thinking about replacing my 496 with a Garmin GTN 635 Xi. that way I can practice full GPS approaches. The era660 seems to need a bigger hole and I don't think its IFR. Anyone thought about this? WF
  16. Engine overheating in the climb in hot wx. This has been the most significant downside to the plane. WF
  17. Mine is 15 years old and has been a good soldier, but I would like an IFR GPS for practice GPS approaches. My 496 mounting hole is 4 1/8 x 6 1/4, with plenty of depth behind I think (CTSW). so it looks like a GTN 635xi, GTN 650 or GNS 430 might fit the hole. Maybe I could get toggle switches for com 1, com2, and since I have an ILS head maybe I could get one for Nav 1, Nav2, and keep the two place intercom. at least that is what I am hoping for. Any opinions? WF
  18. Last month Hawthorne CA to Phoenix to New Orleans lakefront, with 2 stops in Texas, then back. 31 hours in 10 days. Great to be back in the air and going places after such a long time stuck in the world of covid. WF

Not to worry, almost 1700 hours on my SW and I still manage to plunk it down sometimes. WF
  20. Many XC hours at 5250 rpm in my SW have averaged 4.6 gph at 112-115 TAS. WOT is set to 5550. WF
  21. It's a black rubber O-ring. Does anyone know where to get these for a CTSW? WF
  22. I have found that over time the sight tubes change shape a bit, so your initial calibration of the fuel levels using them will drift over time. WF
