  2. I don't get it. Whats the difference between his name and yours? Or anyone's? I don't see a CV/Bio posted with your name or any other poster. Would you take advice from a poster with the name "RotaxGuru" with no posting history, or poor history? Or "JoeBlo" with 1,000 thoughtful, informative posts. In any case, you could always PM the person to discuss your questions or comments. What exact policy would make you happy? v
  3. That is the choice of a poster. The credibility of a poster is determined by their historical posts, not their name. I think Safety Officer's posts speak for themselves.

  5. It's always going to be an issue... between slosh, angles, and forces associated with flying, there will be some "unavailable" fuel sometime. I'd rather start out with 34, and end up with 28, than start out with 25 and end up with 20. I've flown around 700 hours in CTs and only had one "close call". That particular time was a 4.5 hr flight, and I landed with 8 gallons in the tank I thought was low. I suspect you'd hear similar experiences from the high-hours-in-CT folks here on the forum.
  6. There seems to be 2 scenarios: Selectable fuel valve (left/right/both/off) or a simpler ON/OFF. With the selectable valve, the routine is generally a time interval thing, where you change the valve every X minutes. Many aviation timers have been invented to facilitate these reminders. The other scenario, like the CT, requires the pilot to be familiar with the potential for uneven tank use and to monitor and compensate for it. The problem with the selectable fuel valve is that history has proven that it's easy to forget, or turn the valve the wrong way, or to a bad position, and you end up with a problem. A large number of incidents are directly attributed to fuel valve screw-ups. Both methods have their proponents. The new CTs, and perhaps other aircraft, have a header tank that collects from both wings. It's not there solely for the feed problem, but it helps mitigate the issue. But, then, it creates another problem of having another tank somewhere in the plane, that you have to worry about.

  8. And it's not just the CT... Uneven fuel flow has been an issue with high-wing aircraft forever. Just Google "uneven fuel flow high wings" or throw in the word Cessna. Hundreds of thousands of hits. Oft-discussed and well-documented. I do wish FD would have documented the issue more in the manual, and placed a warning placard near the site tubes.
  9. I use mine. As a conservative flier, I'm almost always in the deep green, but it does start alerting me and goes to red when doing stalls.
  10. No expert here, and looking forward to others' ideas, but I don't think you would measure that in seconds.... maybe minutes... several.
  11. The stick is a measure that can be quite inaccurate unless done while the plane is on a known level spot. In the field, like where you ended up, it could be way off, unless you happened to land in a perfectly flat spot. Even while flying, the level can jump from 8 Gallons to nothing with the slightest bank.

  14. "View New Content" is working fine for me. Check the other filters or maybe you've touched the "mark forum read" button..... as nothing has been done YET, on the upgrade.
  15. Check all grounds. And make double-sure it is seated fully in the receiver, so that the connector is all the way in.

  17. After about 6 months without an incident, my 696 wouldn't turn on again about a week ago. I flew home without it and pulled it, since I was going to do the latest firmware update anyway. Of course, it powered-up from battery without a problem, and powered the unit for a long time. Only time will tell if the firmware update will have any affect. I did note that the description of the update says "General improvements to system operation".
  18. I've had this problem twice (two different 696s) The first time it turned out to be a flaky back-light. Sometimes it "appeared" as if it wouldn't turn on and other times it "appeared" to go black while in flight. When I took a very bright flashlight and held it on the screen, I could see it was actually working, but I just couldn't see it. The second unit has had a problem for a while where it didn't appear to turn on. By looking at other forums/posts, I found there might be a point at power-up where the unit looks for various interface connections, and might hang there. I'd turn off the radios and transponder, and then it would turn on fine. It hasn't had a turn-on problem for months now.

  20. Yes. Yes. Install was easy. In my case, it was well worth it, as my old unit had the "display problem", and would have cost half the price (or more) of the Vizion. Plus, the Vizion had a full new warranty and the refurb'd old unit only had a short warranty. If your unit is working well, the Vizion doesn't really add much, especially if you barely use your existing AP. The upset button is nice, but... otherwise it's pretty much the same.
  21. Ditto that, I've had three TruTraks, including the one upgraded to Vizion. They have all performed great and the support from TT is incredible. While the integrated Dynon unit may be convenient, the TT units will serve you well. On another note... that TT Gemini AP is something else!
