  1. Holy crap, trees are hard on planes. Did you get buggered up at all?
  2. In the climb out at wide-open throttle our CTLS 2011 model has fuel pressure drop into the yellow after about 3000 feet of hard climb. Not wanting to let it go any further we lower the nose and reduce the power and the fuel pressure goes back into the normal range after 10 or 15 seconds. There’s good fuel flow to the gascalator when checking for water in the fuel. Any ideas on what might be causing this?
  3. Guys, don’t waste your time trying to insulate the cabin of a CT or CTLS. You will make no noticeable difference. Sound deadening is a science, and the vibrations moving the walls of the cabin have a great deal to do with the extreme noise level in either of the FD cabins. Spend your money on the best most comfortable headset you can find. I actually put in foam earplugs for trips over an 1.5 hrs and then put Bose A20 s on. You can NOT replace lost hearing. You can turn up your com to hear the radio fine with this combination of foam plugs and Bose A20s. If you have ever experienced ringing after a 4 hour CT flight, congrats, you have lost some hearing. When I started flying the Tecnam P2008 with the low compression turbo 914 engine, it was startling how quiet the cabin was, compared to the CTs. It is no louder than any other continental, or Lyc powered AC. I believe a lot of the lower decibel level can be attributed to a smoother low compression engine. You feel less vibration throughout the entire AC, including thru the seats etc. The Tecnam has a very refined interior, but that is not making it noticeably quieter in my opinion. We will be able confirm this theory soon, when the CTLS starts getting delivered with the 914T.
  4. I own a 2011 CTLS and have over 2200 hours in various CTs. I also own a 2017 Tecnam P2008 with 914 turbo. The Tecnam was $40,000 more new than my well equipped CTLS new, largely because of the 914 engine. The Tecnam has less than 1/2 the decibels in cruise flight as the CTLS, but with Bose A20s it’s not a deal maker or breaker. For anyone transitioning from anything but light sport, the Tecnam lands exactly as a 172, and couldn’t be an easier unless it auto landed. When hand flying the AC, the Tecnam is has very harmonized controls and flys like a plane should. When you climb out of it, and into the CTLS, you really notice how unharmonized the CTLS is, skidding around corners etc, and no amount of rudder makes the CT feel like an AC should fly. The CTLS has a much better view out the windshield and the side windows both. If you live up north where it gets cold, and you use your airplane all year round, the Tecnam will throw heat like a car even while idling on the ground, because it has a heater core and a fan, like a car. The Tecnam is a tiny bit harder to get in, and I like the seats better in the CTLS, but man is it nice throwing suitcases and whatever you have with u behind the seats and able to access it all during long flights. The CTLS will get in and out On about 200 feet less runway than the Tecnam, simply because it starts flying at a lower speed, and stalls at a lower speed. That said, I land both of them on a 1000 ft. grass strip with ease. My Tecnam has Garmin G3X and Garmin auto pilot, and the Garmin auto pilot has nothing over the tru track. So the bottom line, the Tecnam has a much more refined interior, and is quieter, and hand flys much nicer, but you have to pay for those refinements.
  5. Yesterday at 1 pm we had a bearing fail on our under mill oscillator. This is the large shaker pan that all material going through the auto shredder drops on before being transferred to the takeaway conveyor. We located all 4 new bearings near St Louis, which is 7 hours away by car. I called a friend in the business near St Louis and had him send a runner over to get the parts picked up and head north out of town. We needed to be running the next morning, so I checked the weather, and hopped in the CTLS, and departed South from our 1200 strip at our recycling facility where the auto shredder is located. Met the parts runner at KPPQ, and loaded the two X 107 lb bearings on the front right seat, one of the 64 lb bearings on the right front floor, and the other 64 lb bearing in the left baggage compartment. The weight and balance worked out great and the AC handled normally. Landed back at the yard at 5 40 pm where the maintenance guys were waiting for the bearings. We were shredding on schedule at 4 30 am this morning. CTs can haul freight....:)
  6. Don, or anybody else here on the forum, do you know if your extension would fit the same on a 2011 CTLS? I haven’t been flying mine much and haven’t done the ADSB Out thing yet. Now my friend wants to rent the plane, so we need to get compliant. I like this tailbdacon solution. If your extension fits a CTLS, I would pay you are somebody else here to print me one. Thx All.
  7. I have had my pitot freeze up twice over the 2200 hrs of CT flying. It happens over nite after having flown through some rain the day before and temp drops that nite. After takeoff in the morning with normal airspeed, (plane was in heated hanger) in the climb the airspeed starts indicating higher than normal air speeds and keeps increasing the higher u go. After it happened the 2 Nd time my mechanic put a little reservoir in the pitot system to collect that little bit of moisture and it evaporates by itself in the heated hanger.
  8. Landing on clear ice isn’t an issue and if u have the luxury of knowing the snow depth and that there are no drifts to contend with, a few inches of snow is not a problem either. This is a dead backwater On the Mississippi in southern wi. When the snow gets too deep, we plow a runway. It’s as much fun as it looks like.
  9. Does the odyssey 310 replace the 370? Identical size etc so no change needed to the battery box? When you install the earth x replacement, does the new battery box line up with holes in the firewall? Is there any wiring issues for the battery lugs etc. in other words, can you just mount the new battery and battery box from earth x and hook the two cables up like normal and go?
  10. I’m in need of a Battery now for our CtLS 2011. We been running the Odessey PC370, but battery mart is back ordered till August on these batteries. We have had a battery failure every other year, and the last P.C. 370 didn’t even make it through its warranty period. Battery Mart refunded the price of the battery but now we can’t find another PC 370 in stock anywhere. I’m thinking of trying the lithium from EarthX. Who supplies the custom case and what’s the red light needed for?
  11. Your GPS based true air speeds flying a triangle or a box won’t be accurate unless you actually split the 360 degrees evenly into 3 reciprocating courses such as 180, 300, and 060 or if flying a box, split 4 courses evenly, such as 360, 090, 180, and 270.
  12. Roger, I agree the American market sometimes is not all about price? Take the Tecnam P2008 for example, is over $200K with 914 turbo, and I think it is selling well. How many CT owners would upgrade to a turbo CTLS, if they had to pay $15K more than for the same equipped 912 or 912i ? I’m assuming it would be 10 to 15 knots faster at 4K to 5k and better yet the higher you go. And yes, I have heard the argument about the turbo is a waste of money without a constant speed prop, and it’s not true. I know, I have one. There is no substitute for HP at All altitudes and especially on hot days. Sure a constant speed would make it wonderful, but being able to make full power at any altitude up to 15K and pitching your prop a little more aggressive for the altitudes you normally fly makes a difference.
