  1. I am interested in purchasing a CTLS or CTSW (ELSA or SLSA). If you are preparing to sell yours (or know someone who is going to sell theirs) please let me know. I would be very grateful for the heads up. For logistics reasons, I'd prefer an aircraft located in the SE region of the country. Thanks! John
  2. A record for CTLSi 5 years Component Time Limit parts replacement. 3. In the CTLS Maintenance Manual "Shock Absorber Inspection" it states to push down on the propeller and release sharply. The nose is supposed to return to the original setting. How much force is required to push the nose down. Mine seems quite stiff and only moves a small amount. Is this normal? My plane is a 2008 model with 700 hrs.
  4. We have a 2011 CTLS based at KRDU equipped with Dynon avionics EFIS-D100, EMS-D120, Trutrak Flight Systems FD autopilot and a Garmin 696 GPS.
  5. I have a 2008 CTLS that was converted to MATCO main wheels and brakes a year ago. I just recently started having a problem that first started with a strong shimmy in the right main landing gear. After some hours spent with a flashlight and mirror, I determined that there was about 1/16" gap between the brake pad that was closest to the tire, and the brake disk. An A & P examined the wheel, told me that both brake pads should ride on the disk, and then figured out that both left and right main wheels did not have the axle nuts properly tightened, since the wheels would spin rather freely when jacked off the garage floor. He tightened them to specs, and that got rid of the shimmy. However, there is still a much smaller but still noticeable vibration and a some apparent brake squeal at landing speeds, most of which goes away at taxi speeds. The brakes otherwise work well, and don't pull to one side or the other at landing or taxi speeds. I spent some more hours today using flashlight and mirror with that right main wheel jacked about 1/2" off the hangar floor, and eventually decided that the disk on that right wheel was rotating true with the wheel (there was no runout or vibration that I could see by spinning the wheel), but the brake cylinder itself was not square with the brake disk. Looking closer at the brake disk, I observed that the surface of the disk that faced away from the tire was more heavily worn/polished on the outer part of its circumference, and the surface that faced the tire was more heavily worn/polished on the inner part of its circumference. I did some measurements using a steel rule, and it appeared to me that the brake cylinder was about 1/32" out of parallel with the disk. Could that be the source of the vibration? Can it be fixed or adjusted, or do I need to replace some parts? Should I be investigating the bolts that attach the wheel assembly to the landing gear? Or could it be something else altogether that I am not thinking of?
  6. I live near Charlotte NC and would like to find a CFI who trains in a CTLS airplane. I hope to purchase one in the near future and have primarily had experience in low wing airplanes.
  7. Does anyone have a ctls close to Lexington, Ky? It looks like the best fit for me (6'5" , 250 lbs) but would like to actually sit in one. I will be in the market at some point. Thanks, Steve
  8. Hi everyone, Been lurking for awhile and recently decided that a CTLS would fit my needs almost perfectly (two people, VFR for fun, usually < 500 nm, want modern safety features). I'm of course posting looking for any interesting leads but I also have a few questions which maybe folks could help with: What sort of pre-buy do people normally do for a CTLS? Any recommendations on people or outfits to contact? Can anyone recommend a CFI around San Jose that has CTLS experience? I expect insurance will want a checkout + a few hours minimum. Almost all of my flight hours are in a Diamond Katana or a Citabria so I suspect it will be an easy transition. Are there any gotchas to look for? I see some models that have had a landing gear replaced but the consensus here seems to be that's not a big deal. Anything else I should be on the lookout for? I see some CTLS on the market with the D100 and some with the Skyview. People who have used both, is the Skyview worth a premium? Any owners can you post your empty weight and/or useful load? I think I'm fine here but I'd love to get an idea what real world numbers people have. For my search I'd probably like to stay under $100k so I think that rules out a CTLSi. There are a few 2009-2011 CTLS on Barnstormers right now that I will probably follow up on but if anyone has other possibilities I would love to hear about them. Thanks for the help!
