Secure 12V connector?

Recommended Posts

Hi folks,

I've been having trouble with the 12V "cigarette lighter" connector in my CTsw. About half of the things I try to plug into it don't seat securely and eventually work their way loose, causing the accessory to lose power and in some cases have to be re-started. Anyone know of a replacement or alternative connector that would be more secure? Maybe something with a twist-lock type mechanism or at least a couple of anchors to secure a nylon tie to?

Right now I've just removed it and wired directly into the plane's wiring, but I'm pretty sure that won't make it past an annual.

The original socket from CT seems to be just a cylinder. Cars tend to have springs that bend inward to retain the lighter.

I've been known to shove the cutoff end of a ty-wrap into the outlet with the plug to hold it more securely. One could also try a small piece of flat spring, always being very careful not to short out the outlet.
