Oil Temp fluctuation fix

Recommended Posts

I have been testing this beta download from Dynon for a couple of months and it works very well. Here is the fix for the oil temp fluctuation. This makes it rock steady. It can be downloaded from the same Dynon support program you use to do the Dynon software upgrades.

Let me know if this file will download for you. I had to add this extension into the main system to even get it this far. It seems to work for me. It will not open to anything you can see. It is only a program update so just save it to your laptop that you use to do the Dynon updates. After the D120 has the update go into the setup menu, select sensors, toggle down to oil temp, the sensor type and toggle to sensor #11. You must select this sensor type for it to work.

This is the only forum you can find this software update because most forums will not allow "efs" file extensions.

SO, ENJOY! :)

I'm working on a fix for the ammeter fluctuation, but nothing as yet.

I found a file called D120_SENSOR_SUPPORT.efs on the Dynon support forum. Is this the correct file you refer to in this post? The Dynon support forum is the only place I found a file that seems to match. If so, I don't know the option to use the Dynon Software Support program to upload it to the D120. The only place I can find where it allows me select a file to upload to the D120 is firmware backup, which doesn't seem right. I think that option is used to restore a backup of the D120 before doing the update. Before trying that, it seemed better to check here first. Also, I may need to update the firmware on the D120 to ver. 5.4.3 before uploading the sensor support (I don't know my current ver., yet, it dates back to before 2010). When and if I do that, do I also need to update the D100 to the same version 5.4.3?

Hi Mark,

That is the correct file because I posted it. You do use the backup file setup to load the file. When you open it it will ask you what file you want to load and just tell it to use that file. It's quick and easy. If you do not have version 5.4.3 then download that new version on both units. Then download the oil temp fix.after it is loaded make sure to go into the D120 sender setup and change the sensor to #11.

Sorry to everyone. I didn't realize the file wasn't in a post. I had to put it in a winzip file so it could be posted.

Hi Chanik,

Posted from the Dynon website,

"Roger,

The oil temp issue is an actual software bug where no filter was being used.

The ammeter issue is much more complicated and is not something we can fix in software. I know that a while ago you requested we add "a moving average filter with a 2 second time constant". Is this what you mean by you sent a solution to us?

We already have a filter on the ammeter, and always have. Believe it or not, the numbers you are seeing are seriously reduced by the filter that is in place.

The issue is the noise is much faster than our sample rate.

Imagine you have a signal which is supposed to be 20A. But imagine it's 10A half the time and 30A the other half because of the noise on it. The average is 20A, but at no point is it actually 20A.

Now, take samples of this every now and then. It's actually possible that you just take samples when it's 30A, and no filtering in the world will make that 20A. Digital systems don't look at the voltage 100% of the time, so they don't get to run a perfect average.

So this gets deep into sampling theory and averaging methods, and the simple answer is that we sample at 4Hz, and if your noise is large and faster than this, there is no software average that can help you.

About all we could do is put in a REALLY long filter but then that would block real issues (like when the alternator fails)."

So, Roger, Dynon tells me system updates are only to be done with FD approval unless you are E-LSA. (Is that your understanding.)

That's what is leading me to send my displays in to be downgraded so I can put the FD screen rearranging update on my Skyview system.

Dynon is wrong up to a point.

You do not need anything from FD for the Dynon or GPS updates from previous years, but if it is listed in your POH as such then you would need that approval. The other way that FD can and evidently does control the new Skyview is all updates that Dynon releases for FD goes through them. They made some of the system more proprietary to themselves. FD specifically configured your Skyview where as the people that bought them to go into an experimental got a generic configuration. FD has never posted any updates for Dynon's in previous years or rather the first generation 7" D100 / D120.
