New FD Assembly-Distrib in Vermont

Newport, Vt. – Jay Peak Owners, Ariel Quiros and Bill Stenger, were joined by Governor Shumlin today, to announce that Flight Design, a light plane manufacturer will locate an assembly and distribution center and flight training at the Newport State Airport.

“I am thrilled to announce that the owners of Jay Peak are at it again, bringing even more jobs to the Kingdom,” said Governor Shumlin. “By basing an assembly and distribution center here in Newport, 25 jobs will be added to the North East Kingdom region.”

Flight Design is a German light aircraft manufacturer that has been manufacturing light-sport aircraft for over twenty-five years. Flight Design USA manufactures seven light-sport aircraft models and has delivered more than 1,800 airplanes to customers around the world. The Flight Design CTLS is an aircraft that has defined performance in the Light Sport Category. The CTLS is very popular for flight training and long distance travel. The CTLS is certified in the USA as a Special Light Sport Aircraft (SLSA), which allows commercial flight training, and rental uses.

“We have a wonderful partnership with Flight Design and I am so pleased that we are able to bring this opportunity to learn how to fly as well as good paying jobs to the Newport area,” said Ariel Quiros.

The Newport assembly and distribution facility will be Flight Design’s fifth distribution center in the U.S.A and will distribute light-sport aircraft to New England and Eastern Canada. By locating at the Newport State Airport the company will be able to take advantage of the area’s Foreign Trade Zone status. The facility will be constructed in the spring of 2014 and operations will begin next summer. The flight school will also begin operations the summer of 2014.
