NC Bill
If someone starts pilot training in an LSA with the aspiration of getting only their Sport Pilot license, do they need a 3d class medical?
Roger Lee
No, just a valid DL.
FlyingMonkey
I had to go to the FSDO to get my student pilot certificate without a medical, YMMV.
Jim
And to be pedantic, you can train all you want with nothing. You just can't solo without a medical or a DL.
Tom Baker
The answer to your question is CFR 61.23. Tom Baker
Can anyone cite the reg that defines "exercising the privileges of a student pilot certificate"? Jim, I didn't find a definition with just a quick look, but I think it would be any time the student is PIC.
Jim Meade
Tom, I'd probably agree with you. I think that means the student can take dual without the DL but of course not solo.
