I've still got my Nokia bag cell phone gathering dust under my workbench.  Needed a huge 12v. battery and probably weighed 5 pounds.  It was so cool to have a phone in the car because the cars I drove in those days weren't worth as much as the phone and there was always the chance of breaking down and being left stranded.  The GPS and cell phones have transformed mankind.  Gotta believe that there'll come the day when we'll just go the to "Transporter Room" and "get beamed up"!

Apollo was the brand name of Oregon Aviation Technology Company, II Morrow, which was acquired by UPS in 1986. Yes the same company that drives the brown trucks.

Then UPS sold the company to Garmin.

Had a II Morrow Apollo 612B Loran Navigator, which was one of the best, GA Loran units, at the time.  Good accuracy, just not great accuracy.

Today the iPhone has much better capabilities.  My how times have changed.
