Its an outflow boundary gust front resulting in that crazy wind shear pushing and twisting them violently on the ground. Call the automated on the way to the airport: 7 knots of wind... sweet... call the automated 3 min later: gusting 37 knots from a different direction.... Couple that with 10k+ DA in the summer and it's never dull around here. Can't even rent the CH750 right now, they won't let anyone during the hot part of the year, it's so under powered with an 0-200. And the CTSW had a prop strike incident so it's down .. again.... Someone put too much left aileron in it, just after touching down (landed kind of flat I guess) ....the prop can touch the runway if you tip it up on the front/1 main far enough apparently.. I mean that is obvious but... seems to me you would need to tip it up pretty far, thinking this would look rather odd going down the runway.. So they had to send the gear drive off etc. The owner emailed me and said they are probably trading it... for another LS. I wish they wouldn't, this thing out climbs the the other LS's... but the bad luck has been running strong lately. Not sure of the exact reasons for him wanting to sell it though. I listed my truck today... if it sells, I will be plane shopping fairly soon. Be so glad to get away from all the nonsense related to renting. Of course... Good thing is the slipper clutch will save the engine 99% of the time. We had a prop strike, so they took off the gearbox, did a quick inspection, and put it back on with new prop, no problem! It's worth about 23k (Duramax I did quite a bit of custom work too, borg warner s366 turbo sitting sideways on top of the engine, some tranny work, water inj, suspension, tuning etc. makes ~ 650hp+) Not worth a ton, but that money pays off my little house, and that opens the door to borrowing some money. Though I will/can probably only borrow about 45k. So my options are limited. My eye is on a kitfox, I want a series 5 or newer (built for 1550 gross), tricycle gear, with a 912 or comparable. Saw a few of these (tail draggers) on barnstormers yesterday in the 35-36k range.. that would leave enough to build a hanger too! That is a large benefit to a non-direct drive prop... don't have to pull the engine and go through it!! From what I'm hearing it shouldn't be down long this time, so it must not have damaged too much beyond on the prop. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
