What were you doing in Amana? That's practically in my back yard. I've probably landed there 50 times.

Hi Jim,

We went there at the last minute...I should have asked you to join us...

3 of us...one from Cushing (Rans Coyote 2010 oshkosh winner) and also Tecnam P92 Eagle.

3 couples and had a lunch then shop around Anama and flew back to Chicago.

I really think that we can have our own fly ins in midwest!!!  We should try!

What do you think?

Loved the music on the first video.  Interesting edit on the second.  Keep up the good work.

Hello Duane,

First music is called Apologize by One Republic!

Somehow it became my favorite while I am flying, since I was listening to it during  my training days.

I will keep posting my trips on the forum and of course I will try to do better as a film editor... :D

We talked about a fly-in last year. Mark from tecnam talked with me at Oshkosh about having one, also. I guess we need to figure on one in 2015. There is already a fly-in at Mt. Vernon, IL each fall.

When and where?

When and where?

Here are places we are thinking of getting some people together for a long weekend;

1. Badlands National Park - Fri~Mon sounds great (6~7 hours from Chicago)

2. Mackinac Island, MI - Sat~Sun (3 hours from Chicago)

3. Beaver Island, MI - Sat~Sun (3 hours from Chicago)

4. Sturgeon Bay, WI - Sat~Sun (2 hours from Chicago)

Then, perhaps somewhere near smokey mountain?  Nice valley airport and a cottage near by?

If anyone want to take a rest near Chicago, KIGQ is really convenient.

Our airport has 2 independent runways (not crossed) and hardly no traffic, then away from O'Hare & Midway airspace.

Indiana border is around the corner, so gas is cheaper than Illinois...!

My CT is in heated community hangar...don't worry, hangar has a plenty of space... I would say easily 6~8 CTs can fit.

Good to use as central location for sure.

In all honesty, I'd be most interested in something that was out and back in one day, but I understand the interest in an overnight. If I were to do an overnight, I'd want it to be something on my bucket list like the museum in Dayton.

For a one-dayer, about 3 hours one way would be about my upper limit and that during the summer when the days are long. That would let me leave at 0800, arrive at 1100, depart about 1500 and be home by 1800 or so. Could stretch that a little. I'm still actively farming so I'm pretty much tied up in spring until June and then again starting about mid-September for harvest. In between, I could usually find a day or two to get away.

My thoughts last summer were to hold it at an airport with an air museum and that was in walking distance of someplace to eat. There are not very many of those within 3 hours of me.

Maybe we could do a fly-in at Oshkosh some day and tour their museum? Not sure about getting to food easily. Greenfield, IA (near Des Moines) has a very nice museum but no food on the field. Ankeny Iowa might work though we'd have to send out for food. Dubuque, IA has food but not much to look at. Same at La Crosse, WI, I think.

If we met at Kansas City downtown we could go get BBQ, but that would take a Class B clearance if I remember right.

Offut AFB at Omaha?

Stanton, MN would be fun. Good FD support site, two nice grass runways. 91 octane. Near MSP but no clearance required. We'd have to send out for food.

Maybe we need a couple of regional sites.

Another option is to find a nice spot with a fly-in breakfast or other event and all of us go there and cadge off their food and facilities and simply meet in the corner.
