Avionics dynon skyview problems

My skyview is acting weird on start ups. Not sure if it's a ground problem or what. I allways shut master avionics off before shutdown and leave it off till after engine start up. Last few trips it took a few on offs to get it to boot up and stay on. The mfd comes on like normal with master circuit breakers in and engine started. Then it shuts down again, sometimes before I even try to turn on master avionics switch. Usually I end up curing it by shutting everything down, including the engine, and restarting it all normal sequence. Yesterday the volts showed reallly low on start up and had to shut down 3 times before they were normal after start up. What the hell is going on here? I'm heading out tomorrow afternoon on a trip, and will b logging 30 hours before back to home plate. Sure would like to find the problem before we leave. Anybody else experience this on a skyview? Im leaning towards something loose somewhere.

I had a startup problem with one of my SV-700's.

At initial startup (boot), one of the displays (the PFD, left side), would not come on line.  The right display (EMS) would boot normally.

If I forced (button push) a subsequent boot of the left display, it would come up normally then.  But it would always require a forced startup.

As per, Dynon tech support instructions, I switched out the displays, but the same display still had the symptoms.

Note:  Before I start the engine, I boot both of the displays up, as the EMS oil pressure needs to be monitored.  Dynon sees no problem with doing it that way.  All other radio equipment isn't turned on until after engine start.  On engine shutdown, I turn off all radio equipment before shutting down, then after shutdown, turn off the SV-700's.

Bottom line, I called Dynon, got tech support help along the way, ended up sending them the problem display.  At first, they claimed the turn-around would be about 30 days.  After spending $10,000 for brand new units, I strongly contested that.  They fixed it and SENT IT BACK TO ME WITHIN 5 DAYS.  Replaced a component inside the unit.  That was outstanding service.

Dynon has seen the problem before and identified affected units.  I checked my unit serial number and it DID NOT fall into the affected unit serial numbers that Dynon published.  So my unit was outside of the targeted units.  Yours may be too.

Since then, I have had no problems and both displays have been booting up normally.

Hope that helps.

I would check the battery then the ground and power connection to that Skyview. Then I would try and reload the software. If none of these cure the problem then Dynon next. They will have you do these trouble shooting things first.

I want to expand on this so everyone knows.

DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT load the software without resolving power issues FIRST. The *ONLY* exception is if Dynon tells you to. If power is lost during the firmware loading process, you could brick the machine.

I CANNOT STRESS THIS POINT ENOUGH. Software should only be loaded on a stable platform unless Dynon tells you to do otherwise.

Wen plane is off and mfd is booted up with master circuit breakers in, then turn on master avionics, the fan almost dies and it kills rt screen and everything stays dark.

assuming your talking about a non-injected engine, an easy check is the voltage regulator. NOTORIUS for crap like this. Pull the plug off and clean contacts etc. The Skyviews, and slowly dying batt. (due to lack of charge maybe) are reacting to the voltage issue imho. Also like Roger says, put a wrench on any electrical connections at the battery etc. (be careful when tightening a HOT wire from battery as wrench is also HOT) Also, put a charger overnight on the batt, and anytime your messing around with the electronics. Good luck!
