FAA ADS-B Showdown

Recommended Posts

Fourteen aviation groups are demanding the FAA back down on their ADS-B mandate.  They claim most GA aircraft can't suffer the cost of the upgrade.  Only 8,800 out of about 240,000 GA aircraft are said to be in compliance as of 1/2015.  The groups want cheaper handheld solutions and say few are going to upgrade as it stands now because they think the FAA will back down.

I think there are going to be changes, before it is all said and done , by 2020. Especially in the LSA category. If a Predator can put a Rocket through a window in your bedroom , on the basis of a phone signal, I believe the technology exists to have a small portable device, be ADS- B compliant and inexpensive. It is only a matter of ruling.

Cheers
