Jim
I started to remove the lower engine cowl on my CTSW and the very bottom left side bracket came away with the cowl. Looks like a fatigue failure. I'm proposing to fabricate a new bracket and Cherry rivet it to the mount just above the fracture point. Anyone else have a better idea? Roger Lee
Hi Jim, In some of the later models they were riveted on. This won't be a problem and a good fix unless you have a good tig welder handy.
rookie
Jim, The same thing happened to me a couple of years ago. I wasnt keen on having anyone welding on my plane so I made a couple of brackets that clamp on. I'll go to the hangar tomorrow and take some pictures to send you. al meyer

Roger Lee
Jim, You really don't need to weld. Just make an "L" bracket and rivet it on.
Runtoeat
Had my right bracket break at the welds. Pop riveted it back on a couple years ago but didn't use cherry rivets. Notice the standard pop rivets have loosened and need to fix this. I'll use a couple of cherry rivets this time to get a higher quality job and probably better clamp loading. I'd recommend riveting and not welding.
rookie
Jim, Here is a picture of the bracket I made, I can send you the sketch I made however if you PM your address I'll send you a set. When mine broke I made two anticipating that it was only time until the other one broke, that was three years ago. I've learned to remove the lower cam lock first, not last. Jim
Here's the part and procedure I made. Shown is the unbent part suitable for a 1:1 template. The part was designed for the left side, but I suspect it's useable on the other side by bending it the other way. Use it at your own risk and your own judgement.
