robthart
A vexing problem; Club 2008 CT (1,400 hrs) has on several past occasions gone into spurts where (right) EGT alarm has sporadically triggered. Sometimes just landing & restart has resolved, have recently replaced all sensors & was fine for about 30 hrs, but happened the other day again. Don't know if related, however about 100(+) hrs ago also developed a fine crack in right side exhaust manifold, resolved by certified weld. Just had 100hr & annual with no probs detected. Any ideas? Either the sensor is bad, or you are running hot. Is the EGT hot on the side where you cracked the exhaust manifold?
Ed Cesnalis
Have you looked at your needle jets?
robthart
Yes, weld & EGT alarm same side... have not checked jets, looking for recommendations to pass on to mechanic, thx!
robthart
Additionally, don't know if makes difference however have run Avgas exclusively (with 25 hr oil changes)
Anticept
Strongly leaning towards a connection issue rather than a sensor or engine issue. Make sure that the connector crimps aren't flimsy, and that there's a good solid connection in the ems connector. Is it spiking high, or is it gradual? Roger Lee
What is hot? Most run 1300-1500F as normal. It can vary from aircraft to aircraft. If one side is running that hot over the other then you should also see a span alarm between sides. If you have any header wrap on and it overlaps the EGT probe it will cause temp swings of 100F+. The EGT probe could be going out? The wire that comes out the top of the probe can get bent and moved around too much and this cause an internal bad connection. The EGT probe connection may have some corrosion, but this is rare and these two connections don't come loose. Need to know what you consider hot is first. Welding on our exhaust to fix a crack or broken pipe is just fine.
robthart
It has been my experience (this has happened to most of our pilots over time) that it begins with random spikes into the yellow/red zone 'til the alarm finally triggers... hard to pin down a 'steady' temp, as when it happens it jumps around (including drops back to green). Want to thank all for ideas, we've been dealing with this for quite some time and recall there's been two sensor changes now with no joy. Most are comfortable it is false alarm & not an engine issue, but very uncomfortable to passengers (& pilot too) when a red light & buzzer goes off! All of your thoughts will be passed on, thx! Anticept
Is it sudden spikes, or gradual? Sudden means connections or EMS issue. Gradual, as in you see a slow to moderate increase and decrease, means there likely really is a problem with the engine.
Roger Lee
Hi Robthart, What are you considering as high and what is the temp spread between sides?
