I'll take a stab at a few.

Educational question:

When do the wings on a CT need to be pulled and inspected? At the 200hr mark.

Sorry. Hint it's in the FD maint manual

What is the glue used to re-secure the flap and aileron bearings? Locktite black super glue, can't recall the number.

What is the number? I used it on you plane it should be in your discrepancy list and or logbook

Should the brake reservoir be full? Half way to allow for some expansion without overflow. Correct

What is the recommended type of oil to use in my engine? Depends on fuel type used. 100ll needs a semi synthetic or dino oil. Auto fuel can use full synthetic.

Correct, but there is one other thing the oil should be?

How do you check to see if the filters (screens) in the wings are becoming clogged? Fuel flow check at the gascolator.

Correct. Fuel flow test as prescribed in the FD maint. manual.

How often should the carbs be balanced? Every 100hrs.

Correct. They will never be in balance at 100 + hrs.

What type of brake fluid do you use in your CT and why? Mil STD 5606

Correct. Why not DOT fluid?

Where am I supposed to keep my aircraft registration? In the plane behind the airwortiness certificate that has to be displayed in front.

Correct

How often should I really replace my ELT batteries?half of the service life expired.

Correct, but Duracell batteries start battery date cycles at 6 year intervals, so I usually recommend 2 years because of the heating and cooling cycles they run through. For $15 that's only $7 a year. Toss the old ones in a flash light.

Where are the Dynon software update 9 pin data cables in my CT? (2 correct answers) in the center tunnel between the seats. Or behind the panel.

Correct

On the first start up of the day or when cold where should you idle your 912 engine rpm?2000 to 2400

Correct. It keeps the stress and vibration off the engine until it warms and the parts expand to operating temps.

What type of brake fluid do you use in your CT and why?

why: DOT fluid is highly hygroscopic and intended to use only in sealed systems.

DOT fluid is not compatible with the rubber seals, used in the brake system. Years ago, I had to change all rubber parts at a CT2k-brake because of the use of DOT 4.

Correct

Roger and crew, I couldn't put a price on this kind of info sharing and learning experience. IMO understanding our aircraft systems at the knowledge level of these quetions enables me to advance my piloting skills.

Say, can there be a situation when CT flaps don't operate evenly? A split flap configuration??

We can use the forums chat capability too! I'd like listen and engage in chat about the challenges others have experienced during long cross country flying. I'm a good planner but 300 miles is my limit thus far and that went well. I experienced I had to really busy myself, during the 200 mile leg, by punching GPS buttons and cross checking position with VOR and map navigation....even doing that it seemed like I was sitting on the tip top of the Empire State Building going no where fast....So, how do others contend with droning on? Lets chat...?

Thanks to all!

Hi Ranger,

The way the CT flap system is set up it would be very unlikely to have asymmetrical flaps. I suppose if the pins that slide into the mechanism at the wing joint were to shear on one side it could happen. Roger may be able to provide some insight. If you did have that condition you would want to try and match the working flap to the stuck one, most likely having to land with flaps up. Not a big deal the CT lands great with 0 and -6 flaps just a little faster.

To pass the time I love the xm radio on the Garmin, watching the interesting terrain go by and my Ipad!

I agree with Eric. I've taken a hard look at the design and it would take some major damage and bent metal to get an asymmetrical deployment. Before Takeoff checklist should include a visual check of both flaps for equal angle.

Eric,

how do you mount the ipad in the CT or do you use it as a knee pad. I'm purchasing a Rans S7LS (keeping the CT). It has an anolog panel with no HSI so I'm thinking of the Aera 510 and the Ipad. I'm also looking at some units with sectionals (ipad w/Foreflight) although I now have iphone w/Wingx. Would appreciate your ionput.

I just use my Ipad on my lap, but I'm sure someone has made a mount of some kind maybe for automotive. I really like the utility of the Ipad, especially with the 3G and the Foreflight program. I had previously used wing on my windows phone which is a great program but I think I like many of Foreflights features better.

One thing I did realize after getting the Ipad is unless your going to put a lot of music and movies on it, you don't need to get a 64gb one. If you just plan on using it for email, Internet, fore flight and some other apps a 16gb or 32gb one is just fine. I would recommend the 3G even if you don't subscribe just for the position data capability that is handy with Forflight, google maps etc.

Hope that helps

Arnold,

I recently got the iFly700 for current sectionals, approach plates, and taxi diagrams. Only the sectionals are georeferenced so far but they are working on that. The price was right and the updates are relatively cheap at $69/yr for basic and $89/yr for everything. It works well on the knee and I also have found I like using the suction cup to mount it on the side window just below the sliding window and aft of the door handle. Visibility is usually pretty good.

One disadvantage is it doesn't have an internal battery but it works well with the 12v outlet and it also has an external 4 hour battery pack. One day they will probably have weather on it but I've got that on my 396 so I don't need it or want it on the 700. It is reasonably sized and light, not bulky at all.

I agonized over the iPad because of all its other capabilities plus the price is similar. But, after reading reports in Aviation Consumer, I decided not to get it. There were a couple of other EFB's I really liked but didn't like the price for those.

One thing for sure, no matter what you get, a better mousetrap will be right around the corner.
