Anticept Posted April 24, 2016 Report Share Posted April 24, 2016 Take it up to an altitude at a GPS waypoint, set for best glide speed, and see how far you will go horizontally in half of a vertical mile. NC Bill Posted April 25, 2016 Report Share Posted April 25, 2016 I did a test shortly after buying my 2008 CTLS. While I can't seem to find my post in the archives I do remember this. It was engine OFF, 2 attempts at 4,000', 2 pax (glider pilot in right seat), IAS 72 kts, light winds. The average attained was 1.7nm glide per 1,000' altitude loss. IIRC most responders felt this was well short of their experience, expectations. But 1.7 is what I have programmed into my Skyview for gliding distance.
