Wire Colors and pin-out for 6 pin connector & Ignition Switch

Can someone please provide the wire colors and purpose for the wires in the ignition module 6 pin connector?  I've looked at the Rotax manual and the wire diagram but it isn't clear to me what the pin-out is.  Also, if someone has a diagram for our ignition switch, it would be appreciated.

74-00-00 Page 33 of the 912 ULS Heavy Maintenance manual, Edition 1 Rev 4 has the diagram you need for the 6 pin connector. Note that the pages before it has the diagram for the older engines that have separate individual connectors, so don't use that one.

 

I have the electrical system diagram for a dynon D series setup, but I recommend you ask Arian first. Give him your model and year. The problem is there's a lot of mixing and matching of different parts and there's quite a few different diagrams as a result. My diagrams may or may not work for you and I'll only provide it as a last resort (and absolved of liability obviously too!).

Thanks Corey.  I have looked at this and was hoping to see a better schematic which shows the how the modules interface with the ignition.  I guess the only wires coming from the ignition is the item "7" which shows "grounding switch for circuits A & B".  This shows a schematic of a switch that I am assuming represents the "P" lead grounding circuit coming from the ignition switch?  I am not sure what color the "P" leads are at the 6 pin connector.  Brown?  White?  It's not clear to me.  I believe the stator charging wires are red?  Eddie said he traced the grounding or "P" leads from the ignition to the module connector with a Volt/Ohm meter so if you're looking at this Eddie, please chime in.  At one time I had the ignition switch pin-out but no longer can find this.

That's what I did - I have separate ignition switches and it was not clear which switch was connected to which module.

 

I did a Google image search for "rotax 912 color wiring" and came up with lots of good schematics and photos. Here's just one:

Runtoeat: It's in the center of the diagram, just below the ignition module drawings. There's also a hint showing a switch pointing to drawings of the connectors on the left and right side. See attached, that's all included and I cut out the rest of the irrelevant info.

 

The BROWN wire is the P lead. However, these wires tend to fade easily, so I suggest checking continuity first. If the ignition switch is off and working properly, only one of the wires leading to it will ring out, but be sure to check for more than one just in case.

Great information.  Thanks for the replies.  Eddie, even though not CT specific your connector is Rotax specific and the connectors are common.  This helps me understand the wire layout a lot.  Tom's picuture heped too. I see the FD plastic tags on my wires like in your picture but they are no longer legible.  I am including a picture of the connector which is from a CTLS and believe this shows the same wire "in situ".  You will note these white wires have a smaller wire coming out from the shrink wrap.  The picture doesn't show it but these smaller wires continue on to the screw that secures the modules to the engine. This indicated to me the white is a ground wire.  I'll do a continuity check to make sure which wires are controlled by the ignition switch as Eddie suggests.  Never can get too many pictures.  Corey, one of the reasons I asked for help was because the Rotax wire diagram confused me also.  I see white leads which appear to be "P" leads but I read the diagram as calling these Brown.  Just trying to understand this part of my CT and figured it is good info for others to have too.

Dick, the CTLS's have shielded wire. The center wire is used to ground the ignition. Then there is outer braided cover. The insolation separates the two, and then there is a outer cover as well. The wire that is coming out of the heat shrink connects the braided cover to ground. It is to help block the electrical noise emitted from the wire.

OK Tom, shielding of the wire is grounded to bleed off the RFI that might be emitted.  Got it.  Never was a wire wizard and never will be.  Thanks for your input.  Corey, the diagrams are great.  The little switch identifies the "P" leads and probably was intended for guys like me.  I'll poke around with my multi-meter and figure things out.  Will probably check resistance of the stator voltage (red) and trigger wires while I'm there.

Generator Stator coil test is done at the voltage regulator. Test between the two yellow wires. Should also be open circuit to ground.

 

Charging coil test is red to ground. Wanted to make sure we were talking about the same thing so I just went ahead and posted both.

 

Heavy MM Ed. 1 Rev 4, 74-00-00 Page 22 has the results that you need.
