There's also:

MyClip: http://www.tietco.com/id47.html

Hand-e-Holder: http://www.handeholder.com/m5/10010--hand-e-holder-leg-strap-kit.html

AppStation: http://www.newskyproducts.com/appstation.html

Haven't tried any of them. I like my Apple case and don't want to have to take it out of the case to attach to the kneeboard. Have anyone tried these or the one from Sporty's?

S3Flyer,

That is exactly why I love my AvPad. It's the only iPad Kneeboard AND iPad Case that I use. I now have 3 other iPad cases collecting dust in a box since I haven't taken my iPad out of this case in 2 months.

Even with my iPad kneeboard, the Appstation, I don't get it...

The iPad (or any tablet) is a wonderous, complex, gadget with astonishing capabilities, filled with a thousand parts that require incredible precision and complicated manufacturing.... and requires ongoing support and warranties.... and cost maybe $500.

My Appstation kneeboard is a single chunk of plastic that does almost nothing and is simple to produce, and has no ongoing support.... and costs $50.

...just wondering...

Hmm...looks interesting.

Does it have the small incline angle (30 degrees or so) available, like the Apple case, that still allows you to type?

S3Flyer,

No, it does not have an incline. We tried working with something along those lines when we first started designing it, but in a couple of situations we noticed an issue with climbs and climbing turns that would cause the inclined AvPad kneeboard to interfere with the yolk. We opted to remove the inclined part of the kneeboard until we can be sure it would be completely safe.

Didn't really want the 30 degree angle for aeronautical reasons. I use my iPad for my business notebook as well and use a stylus for writing (Note Taker HD is a great app for this!). Flat is OK but a slight incline is much better when using a stylus.

Well, I picked up the Sporty's iPad holder and it's okay, but not what I'm needing. It gets in the way with the yoke and would definitely be a problem with the center control stick. The right folding cover impinges on the throttle quadrant and also right passenger. Plus, the iPad has fallen out of it twice and onto the floor of the plane while using it. I also purchased the Bluetooth antenna and it is phenomenal. Almost instant "pinging" for the aircraft with Foreflight. Very small and runs for almost ten hours with the onboard battery. Neat feature is there are no moving parts either. Just swipe your finger over the top and the antenna turns on and off. Still looking for the "right" iPad holder. Starting my Instrument PIC (10 day course) in September so I want it to be nailed in by then. Just passed my Instrument Written last weekend.

There'll be one that comes along soon, I'm sure...

FWIW I bought the MY CLIP Thigh that Dave (S3flyer) mentioned in an earlier post.

I find it suits my needs well enough. Glare is an issue with the iPad. I had Best Buy install & uninstall a ZAGG anti-glare shield. It distorted the view. They said 99% return the shield for that reason. They removed it without a question.

John,

You are correct about the stick, at least in the CT. I can get around the right side going over the throttle by folding it down the right side of my leg and between the seat cushion and the center tunnel. But, it is large enough that it gets in the way of full stick movement. Although I could probably work around that I consider it not safe. You need something that doesen't increase the ipads footprint. The tietco.com product might work but if it or something like it doesn't, then we need a plan "B".

I agree it's bulky, I have to remove it for takeoff and landing. I like it for the Cirrus where you have more lap room.

We need a flexible boom that comes forward from the rear bulkhead that has a swivel attachment to the IPad!

Found a pretty good iPad holder for $37 from Knee Dock. Since it just clips the iPad in, there is no extra bulk to get in the way of the stick or get in the way of the flap handle on my S3. Had another pilot in the plane with me and didn't feel the iPad+Knee Dock got in the way at all. Pretty simple device but I didn't want any of the extra's of some of the high-end ($$$) knee boards.
