fredycompean
Hi Guys, In terms of weight to keep the plane as light a possible, is the entire instrument panel an area of opportunity? I have seen many CT configured with two 10" screens. I haven't flown the glass panel Dynon Skyview instruments, but I will soon (as soon as I make one mine), and I keep wondering why two of them? Besides the awesome look, is there any kind of functionality for two of them? Does it sacrifice payload? Thanks in advance Fredy
Tom Baker
Yes it sacrifices payload. ASTM requires a back up to any electronic display of required flight instruments, (airspeed and altimeter). When they were using 7" screens there was room in the panel for a back up analog instruments. When they went to 10" screens they had to make the mushroom larger to accommodate the larger screen and lost the space to install analog back up instruments, so they added a second AHARS to the second 10" screen to maintain ASTM compliance. Also fly with half fuel tanks. The CTLSi gets 4gph. Two screens are for redundancy and so you can have a moving map and engine monitoring up with the PFD. You don't want or need to change that. N456TS
The SV-D1000 is only 3 pounds.
Doug G.
The SV-D1000 is only 3 pounds. Yes, but it also has a redundant magnetometer, OAT, and pitot so it adds up to a bit more. I like having the redundant system.
Tom Baker
When Flight Design introduced the 10" Skyview option over the Dynon D100/120 combo, the average empty weight increased about 20-25 pounds. I don't think the Dynons were all of the increase. I think the bigger mushroom, larger GPS's, more antennas, added AHARS, and additional wiring also contributed. cgrbu
Along this theme of the dual 10" Skyviews, my right side which I have programed for the engine parameter display, I will sometimes get on start-up an incomplete display, mostly lines and interference. However if I get power only to that screen, everything comes on correctly. Before I send off to Dynon for troubleshooting (not on warranty anymore) has anyone had a similar experience out there? I suspect low voltage in the system and it will correct itself with the alternator outputting proper voltage.
