Anticept Posted May 8, 2017 Report Share Posted May 8, 2017 Because of the difficulty in painting composites (removal of the old paint is done mechanically, while on metal we can do it chemically), it's recommended that one stick to white paint and use decals. Roger Lee Posted May 9, 2017 Report Share Posted May 9, 2017 If it's an ELSA he can paint whatever he wants. If it is an SLSA he needs factory approval. Carbon fiber and composites are usually painted white because they don't do well in direct hot sun. This is why FD's planes are a base coat of white.
