Stabilator Tape

I always tape the wing root. Keeps some of the cold winter air out and or rain if it gets caught outside. The factory tapes the stab so I have always taped it too. It would keep rain out there. I think the tape is easy to apply and only takes a few minutes per wing. I clean the surface with Goof Off and then lay the tape down. Do not stretch it or it will crack because the wings flex and things expand and contract during hot and cold periods. I always apply a second layer over the leading edge about 8" long back over the top and under the bottom.

This should last your two years until the wing inspection when done correctly.

The stab gaps I still use the 1" tape. Put the stab in the full down position to lay the top tape and the full up position to lay the bottom tap. This keeps the tape from stretching either lengthwise or from side to side. It tends to last at least two years when done properly.
