Adam
Ok... so this is a CT / LSA forum... but its not everyday you get stick time in a vintage, fully restored, museum owned P51 Mustang! I'm a relatively low hour pilot, but I now have 1 hour in my log book in a P51 - a fun day! https://youtu.be/5fh5QHKG3oE
Cluemeister
Nice departure shot at the end. Sounds like you have your next plane picked out?
rhanson
If you go for 2 hours, be sure to read John Deakins article: http://www.avweb.com/news/pelican/pelicans_perch_87_killer_go-arounds_195755-1.html
Adam
No P51 in my future... Out of my league in both price and complexity. I'm content being a fair weather burger chaser in an LSA. I will say that this was the number 1 item on my pilot bucket list and it was a thrill to check that box! Its fun to think that my first handful of aileron rolls (not very smooth to be sure) were in a North American P51 - not a Cessna 152, now for me - that's fine living! I'm guessing there will be a few more hours whenever the Collings Foundation comes back around next year. The small bonus part of paying $3200 per hour dual is that its mostly tax deductible as a charitable donation :-)
Doug G.
A couple of years ago I went up in their B-24. I had an uncle who was a bombadier in a 24 that was shot down over occupied France pre D-day. He and one other survived. The Collings plane is the only one flying that saw combat (and a lot of it). A historical journey for me.
Adam
I made a YouTube of that too.... (B-24) By comparison, a B-17 is luxurious! I never got to the nose on Witchcraft... Too damn tight under the flight deck to crawl up there for my 200 lb rear end! https://youtu.be/u2wrajIo4I8
Doug G.
I made it from the waist gun position up through the bomb bay to the nose (some crawling involved). I'm 200+, but determined. ????
