ralarcon
A serious shortage of pilots now exists in the US Air Force - some 900. http://www.mcclatchydc.com/news/nation-world/national/national-security/article94922927.html Yes have seen that documented in several articles. Probably a mixture of poor salaries, and lack of interest from the population in general. It is intellectually and physically challenging to become a military pilot and especially a fighter pilot. Do not see many youth motivated. To say nothing about family separation and jeopardy of loss of life, of deployment to war zones. In my opinion military pilots do not get paid well enough. CT2kflyer
Military pilots ALL make 6 figures when you figure in the housing allowances, flight pay, bonuses, etc. It's not about the pay......... it's about the micro-management by the leaders, the politically correct atmosphere and the bean chasers sucking all the fun from the vocation. People don't join the military to get rich........ that's not the motivation. I'm surprised it was even raised.

Fun is OK, but then you have to think about family, children etc. I still think they don't get paid enough. Cheers
Doug G.
Probably not true of the pilots, but the lower echelon folks regularly qualify for SNAP (food stamps).
gbigs
Probably not true of the pilots, but the lower echelon folks regularly qualify for SNAP (food stamps). So do 80 million others in the USA...the most poor in the history of the country....and the military has declined during the same period... Tony & Rose
"People don't join the military to get rich........ that's not the motivation." CT2flyer -- You got that right!! To ralarcon -- we had families, while delivering ordinance to the other guy, also. We don't place a dollar value on our lives. We give our lives so you can place a dollar value on yours. Anticept
I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that there's no confidence in the people in power, regardless of political alignment.
