Roger
I. Just looked at the website , https://www.flightdesign.com/flight-design-pricelists/ Looks like their are only 472.5 kg versions on offer. What happened to the 600kg models ? I thought it was essentially built the same.
Runtoeat
Reading the specs on the different models now offered, it looks to me that the CTSW is being offered with 80hp Rotax @ 472.5kg. The CTLS specs I see say this is now offered with 3 engine choices @ 600kg.

Runtoeat
Hi Andy. I re-read the specs for the CTSW and this is what I see with no "optional" items listed: 80hp Rotax - no Tundra package and 4.00-6 front wheel - analog only gages - elevator only trim - samel composite landing gear as CTLS - 600kg certified I'm thinking this can be purchased here in the U.S. due to it listing 600kg certification

Roger Lee
I wouldn't want an 80 hp and I would bet that may hurt sales. You already lose HP with the 100 hp so that puts an 80 hp even farther back and poor performance at higher altitudes and especially at higher DA's. Buckaroo
It seems 80 hp is going backwards! Why?
Tom Baker
I think everyone is making a big deal over nothing. They are not going to shove something down our throats that we don't want. I think what they are listing is for the European market. Wait and see what FDUSA list as available and pricing.
Runtoeat
I would Agree. It appeared to me that the published prices and information were for the European market. If it turns out that this will only be offered with the 80hp, I would also agree with Roger.
FlyingMonkey
The 80hp engine is puzzling also because there is no weight advantage. Maybe they don't want their less expensive model outshining their top tier (heavier) model...?
opticsguy
I'd buy a CTSW again with a 100 HP or greater engine, but not a CTLS
Ed Cesnalis
I would be interested in a CTSW with a turbo Rotax.

My buddy at the airport has that setup in his Rans 7. He can climb with the best of them but I can outrun him by 15 knots in my CTSW easily. It doesn’t help as much with the altitude problem where you fly, of course.

Scrapman1959
Curious, why you guys would buy another CTSW, but not a CTLS? Is it the difference in cruise speed? What is the consensus on the speed difference? Having flown both long distances, the CTLS certainly has advantages in comfort ( more reclined seating option) and convinience with the hat rack for storing munchies, and misc stuff you want in the cockpit with you. I guess for some the weight is an issue?

I guess for some the weight is an issue? The big advantage is empty weight, which is 50-150lb less than a CTLS. That translates directly into useful load. I have 575lb useful on my CTSW, the newest CTLSi models’ useful are about 90lbs lower. Big difference when you want to take two people on a trip. There are of course advantages to the CTLS. They have more refined features and conveniences, but nothing in my mind that offsets the weight penalty. I do wish my CTSW had the rear quarter windows so I could see better over my shoulder in flight.
