FlyingMonkey Posted February 19, 2018 Report Share Posted February 19, 2018 I had a bad ground on my oil temp gauge and the symptoms were similar to what you describe. Check and tighten all the grounds. Also make sure the sensor wire has a good connection to the sensor. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Tom Baker Posted February 19, 2018 Report Share Posted February 19, 2018 Besides the things Andy mentioned it could be the sender. IIRC with analog gauges you likely have a spare sender. I think it uses the same sender as the coolant on engines with the old heads. If you do have a spare it will be on either the front left cylinder or the right rear cylinder.
