Funny you should ask. My strategy was quite different. I tried to sleep through the whole event but it was far too loud so instead I fell out of bed and broke a rib. The screaming didn't stop, never heard the word bear but was hearing my name so I tried to get up and couldn't with both calfs well cramped, finally got up and fell again. By the time I crawled down the stairs the bears were gone. They kept coming in spite of the screaming but turned around when girlfriend turned on the lights. Life with broken ribs sucks for a bit.
