Animosity2k
So from what I can gather in the SL40 manual ( http://static.garmin.com/pumac/560-0954-02_0G_web.pdf ) the SL40 can tie into certain GPS units and pull airport frequency. Has anyone done this and with what GPS device? I couldn't find a list on GARMINS website of supported GPS devices. Thanks.
Tom Baker
I had my 496 set up to send frequencies to my SL40.

Tom, I assume my AERA 796 would be the GPS device in my plane correct? Or would it be the Garmin GTN 750? Going to see if I can find out how to tie it into my SKYVIEWS tomorrow when I get off work. Tom Baker
Don't know about the GTN750, but the 796 should do it. It just needs to be wired for the data transfer.

So in my head after reading the GL40 user manual what I imagine happening is the radio swapping between FREQ automatically based on GPS position or is that incorrect? Tom Baker
With the 496 you had to go to the airport information page, highlight the frequency, and press enter. That would move it into the standby spot on the radio.
Animosity2k
So that is also only as accurate as is the information in the Aera 796. So I'd also have to pay for the update for that as well?
Tom Baker
Yes , but while frequencies do change it doesn't happen very often. As long as you have an other source for you information I wouldn't worry about it.
