CT2K
Hi Gentlemen, The other day a hangar neighbor with a low wing asked if the CT could be piloted with stick alone. I said yes to a certain extent, but he wanted more details; I told him I would ask the question in the forum and I will get back to him with more details. Please free to share your thoughts and experiences.
Tom Baker
My opinion is that if you try and fly with the stick alone it will be ugly. The CT has a lot of adverse yaw, and it is amplified at low speeds with the flaps deployed. This is unlike a lot of low wing airplanes that have differential ailerons that help compensate for adverse yaw at least with mild control inputs. Animosity2k
I'm not sure how one would do it as Tom alluded to. This plane as a ton of adverse yaw and I feel I rely pretty heavily on my rudders.
Warmi
To Toms point , my low wing Sting doesn’t have much adverse yaw , I really only notice when doing slow flight and about 90% my overall rudder usage is during landings and takeoffs for reasons not related to adverse yaw. FlyingMonkey
Why would you want to fly with stick alone? Personally I'd rather fly an airplane with a working rudder and jammed ailerons than the other way around. With rudder you can (and will) yaw and roll. CT2K
Thanks to All for your valuable contributions, as usual. Will revert back to the person who originally asked me the question. I like the wisdom in Tom Baker's comment "with the stick alone it will be ugly". Very diplomatic way to say "Don't do it"
