Ed Cesnalis
Its never fun leaving my plane blocking the only runway. Lucky for me I have a scooter for the last mile and it worked nicely as a tug / cart. The scooter's motor did the work and we tugged it back to may hangar with no problem. EB3
Glad yours worked out OK. I've had five flats in my airplanes. I had taxi flats in my Aerotrek A240 and CTLSi, and my only landing flat was in my C-172L. The landing flat was a mesquite thorn, and the others seemed to be tube failures for whatever reason. cdarza
Just curious (in case i have same problem) How did you get wheel on to the scooter ?
Ed Cesnalis
My passenger lifted the wing while I inserted the Scooter. He is stronger than me. We also found a CFI to sit in the CT and steer with the pedals. It was a pleasant stroll on long side.
FlyingMonkey
I had to get a tow back to the hangar the other day, halfway across the airport, when I had a fuel leak. I was able to get the flight school to use their tug to help. My airplane doesn't have the welded-on lugs for a tow bar as some do. I wrapped a tow strap around the nose gear strut, attached it to the tug, and sat in the airplane to brake and steer while the tug towed me in. Worked great. I'm going to start keeping a tow strap in the airplane. I have also had a flat on a taxiway at my home airport. I man-handled the CT into the grass beside the taxiway and changed the tire there. That was not a fun day. I'm glad to hear your improvised wheel cradle worked. I need to think up something to do that job, a flat a huge PITA. Tom Baker
I've changed CT tires on the ramp and taxiway before. I carried the wingtip to get one off the runway before. A furniture dolly will also work. I have thought about modifying one with an aluminum sling for the wheel.
airhound
Tom What size socket is needed for nose wheel bolts. the only other tools would be a wrench for the wheel pant tow bar bolts and pliers for axle pin? And air. Correct?
Tom Baker
The head of the axle will require a wrench. From memory it is a 17mm for the head, and a 19mm for the nut. A small adjustable wrench or two for the tool bag would be the ticket.
