That's what it's for, at least originally when resistor plugs came out.

These days it's important to use resistor plugs if your engine is designed for them, as they can have an effect on timing accuracy.

It's actually quite hard to find non resistor plugs anymore anyways, they're pretty niche.

I went ahead and bought four. I needed to replace some ones I've used. Amazon used to be a place to buy them, but the prices have all gone up.
