Eagle Wings
Well I need a landing light for my SW. I was spoiled by Chanuk's 3 mode LED but since it failed I need a new light. Can someone direct me to the best LED out there that will fit the SW? I will be looking forward to recommendations. Bob
liltaka
***Update*** I just finished installing LED light. Original light draw too much power, my set up also did not help; 2 dynons & 696 w/TS autopilot plus traffic avoidance. When everything turned on, I noticed that I can only turn on landing light for a few minutes, it draw too much power. I replaced the old high power light with; 1. 9w 12v LED light (720 lumens) 2. Longer screws are used for light fixture (purchased at Lowes) 3. Plexiglass cover was used to protect the light (purchased at lowes, you can cut plexiglass with coping saw) It turned out much better than original landing light, Plexiglass also works great (I will never have cracked lens for sure) Attached shows how its installed, much more protected than before and less than 1/10 of power. If you are interested in installing this option, please let me know. I just sent LOA to FD USA, may be we can split the cost. P.S. - I already discussed this change with FD USA earlier, he said just change the light and document everything and send LOA after installing the lightLED.pdf
liltaka
- Additional update - I just talked to Dave / FD USA, he said my alteration will be approved very soon. This alteration will cost roughly $150. I will take a picture tonight with the landing light on and post on this site.
Doug G.
I have a strange one on my 2010 - it is a rectangular 6 LED light. Not sure how easy it will be to replace if I ever need to.
chanik
I have a bulb like that one. You should try this one instead https://admin.1000bulbs.com/search/?q=00233 and about 4x brighter than the one you have* * Those cheap import lights are about 1/2 the power and 3-6x less light than they claim. liltaka
I think he is talking about LED Soraa 00233 11.5w / 75w equivalent 20 degree. I just ordered it and compare with the one I have...maybe he is right...
Doug G.
chanik (Kurt?) that gets me to the site, but not a bulb. I can't find any rectangular arrays. Assuming you were talking to me.
chanik
Correct. I fixed the link. I know some people who work over there. The trouble with LED light numbers is that they aren't like MPG or Vne. There are no mandatory test standards, nothing needs to meet a certified spec and there is no agency that enforces bogus claims. So an OEM can claim anything for lumens and candela with impunity
Doug G.
Looking at the times, you posted before I did, but they ended up in a different order. The link now works and it is obvious you are not responding to my rectangular bulb.

liltaka
Hi chanik, Thank you for the info. My new light (https://admin.1000bulbs.com/product/93612/LED-00233.html) is as bright as original light and works wonderfully. Only thing I did is I replaced the glass cover and used plexi glass instead. Thank you sir!
mocfly
Has anyone thought about installing this light? http://www.thiesen-electronics.com/en/index.php?page=lichter/ell.html Kurt, What is your take on it?
Anticept
mocfly: those were one of the lights that replaced halogens in the CT fleet on new aircraft. I have one after we had to replace the bottom cowling when it got torn up. They are very expensive, and don't seem as bright as the old halogens. Mine burned out on me too, and it took weeks for the warranty replacement to get to me. The problem is, the manufacturer is all the way in Germany. Upside though, the red flash function makes you very easily seen in combination with the tail beacon. Once it gives up after the warranty period, I'm going for an american made light. chanik
Site unseen, my guess is the Thiesen lamp is maybe 20% brighter, but of course doesn't drop into the MR16 holder and as mentioned is much more costly.
