Oiling your K&N oil filter

Recommended Posts

Cleaning and oiling a K&N oil filter is fairly simple, but many tend to over oil the filter. Do not clean a K&N oil filter with gasoline, it will ruin the gauze. Use either their water based cleaner, hot soap and water or a water based degreaser like Oil Eater. I usually pour some Oil Eater in a little bucket with some hot water and swish it around. Then dry it well. Apply a light coating of oil with a spray can or there squeeze bottle oil. Do not over saturate this filter as the oil will reduce the air flow, temps will increase as the engine will be a tad leaner and oil will coat the inside of the carb throat. After you apply the oil you should be able to still see some white areas of the gauze. The oil will spread so don't worry.
